Mallory Graham and Scott Tyler formed The Rough & Tumble in 2011, after nearly five years of sidestepping the awkward musical tension between them. Then, four years, three EP’s and one year-long-24-song challenge known as The Rough & Tumble’s Holiday Awareness Campaign later, the duo decided it was high time to stop sidestepping the tension of the cartoon hearts in their eyes, too. In 2015, the couple sold everything they couldn’t store in boxes small enough to fit in Mallory’s sister’s spare closet, quit their day jobs, admitted they were in love, and bought a camper to venture on the open road, playing shows nationwide.
They’ve been out there ever since, with their 88 pound dog, Butter, sidekicking through more flat tires than she has paws and a few extra bumps along the way. Before their second full year on the road, on March 1, 2016, The Rough & Tumble released Pieces and Pieces, asoundtrack written for the Alyssa Pearson short film (expected soon) dually named. The 7-song EP explores issues of women in war, PTSD, and mending the gaps of a life that has been torn to pieces.
As they closed out their second year as full time road musicians, The Rough & Tumble managed to squeeze a fourth companion into their 16 foot camper– an 81 pound rescue pup named Pud. They are making room for a few more songs, too, as they released Cardboard and Christmas Lights in February 2017, a 7-song EP compiling the earliest and latest years of their career, creating a song-by-song education of the less studied R&T fans, while adding a few new songs for the devout. They are also busying themselves during their Nashville winter blues by recording their first full (and normal sized) album, with an expected release in January 2018.
